New, comments

Amidst rumours that the Canadiens would rest their star goaltender, they have announced he will indeed start against Tampa Bay.

First off, the big news is that Carey Price will get the start versus the Lightning.

This will be of particular interest to not only Tampa Bay fans, but Leafs fans as well, who are currently keeping an eye in their rearview mirror. Tampa Bay is three points back of the Leafs, with two games remaining on the schedule.

Neither Alexei Emelin nor Shea Weber were present for the morning skate. As it stands, we know Weber’s injury is not serious, but we haven’t yet received an update on Emelin’s status.

The forward lineup saw a minor change, with Michael McCarron taking over 4th line centre duties, and Andreas Martinsen returning to the wing. This indicates that both Brian Flynn and Torrey Mitchell will sit out the game against the Lightning.

As for the defensive pairings, we’re in for an...interesting setup. Nikita Nesterov was promoted to the first pairing, Brandon Davidson was paired with Jeff Petry on the second, and freshly recalled Brett Lernout was practicing alongside Nathan Beaulieu. Jordie Benn took part in the rushes, but will not play.

Update: Both Benn and Weber will be ready for the playoffs, however Emelin’s status remains in question.
