With Al Montoya not able to play tonight for the Montreal Canadiens, Zach Fucale will get the call to back up Carey Price against the Dallas Stars tonight.
#Habs have recalled Zach Fucale from ECHL Brampton on an emergency basis to backup Price tonight— Kyle Bukauskas (@SNkylebukauskas) March 28, 2017
Montoya was scheduled to start for the Habs, but suffered an injury in practice. Charlie Lindgren would not be able to make it from St. John’s in time, so Fucale - who has been playing for the ECHL’s Brampton Beast - will be recalled.
Fucale has a 25-12-2 record with a 3.17 GAA and .898 save percentage for the Beast. He also won the Gold Medal at the Spengler Cup earlier this year.
Fucale was a second-round pick in the 2013 Draft and is the fourth player from the first two rounds to come to the NHL this season, following Michael McCarron, Jacob de la Rose, and Artturi Lehkonen.
This is a great example of how having the AHL team in Laval next season will benefit the Canadiens.
