The Montreal Canadiens have recalled defenceman Brett Lernout

The Canadiens dipped into the AHL to replace the ailing Shea Weber.

Club de hockey Canadien, Inc.

With the news breaking on Monday afternoon that Shea Weber would be shut down for an undetermined amount of time, the Montreal Canadiens have called up Brett Lernout from the Laval Rocket partway through the Western Canada road trip.

In 29 games with the Rocket this season, Lernout has a goal and three assists, and a -9 rating. His first goal came tonight after getting a breakaway out of the penalty box.

This isn’t Lernout’s first recall to the NHL, and in his prior three games he recorded zero points for the Canadiens. This likely opens a roster spot in the AHL for the out-of-favour Simon Bourque, who has only played 11 total games this year, while veterans like Eric Gelinas are preferred by Sylvain Lefebvre.
