Montreal Canadiens place Martin Réway on unconditional waivers

It appears that the Slovak’s time with the organization is at an end.

Club de hockey Canadien, Inc.

Earlier this week it was announced that Martin Réway and the Montreal Canadiens agreed to a short break to allow both parties to decide on his future with the organization.

It would appear today that both sides have agreed on releasing him from his contract.

Réway was considered to be a major steal in his draft year, especially after he carried a Slovakia side to a bronze medal in the World Junior tournament in 2015. After several good years in the Czech Extraliga and Swiss NLA he was set to join the St. John’s IceCaps last year. Unfortunately he fell extremely ill and it was uncertain that he’d ever play hockey professionally again.

This year he proved many people wrong, suiting up for the Canadiens in the 2017 Rookie Tournament, as well as for the Laval Rocket in their inaugural season in the AHL where he tallied two assists in five games.

It’s unclear at this time where Réway will end up next, but the contract termination will allow him to return home with no strings attached.
