Montreal Canadiens assign forwards Nikita Scherbak and Bobby Farnham to AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps

The news indicates that the Habs are about to see the return of some key players to the lineup.

After their game against the Minnesota Wild, the Montreal Canadiens announced that they had sent forwards Nikita Scherbak and Bobby Farnham down to their AHL affiliate.

Scherbak made the most of his first stint in the NHL, scoring a goal in his first game, against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The moves indicate that a few of the players who have been out with injury are about to make their return to action. Reports from earlier in the week suggested that Andrei Markov and Alex Galchenyuk were expected back soon, so it’s quite possible that the team’s top centreman will be ready to go versus the New York Rangers on Saturday night. The fact that it’s two forwards going down, and not one of the seven currently active defencemen suggests that it might be one of Andrew Shaw or David Desharnais who will join him in coming off the Injured Reserve list.
