What is the NHL Foundation Player Award? It's mostly an award that recognizes charitable donations and work around the community.
The NHL Foundation Player Award is awarded annually to the National Hockey League (NHL) player "who applies the core values of (ice) hockey—commitment, perseverance and teamwork—to enrich the lives of people in his community".
The winner is given a grant of US$ 25,000 to help causes that the he supports.
Subban likely received his nomination due to his philanthropic endeavors and his endless work without various charities.
Subban made the news earlier this season by committing to raise $10M for Montreal's Children Hospital. He's also been known to set up special events that focus on sick children and their families.
Simply put, the world needs more people like P.K. Subban.
