There has been a lot of speculation about the nature of Alex Galchenyuk and the injury he sustained early in a game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday. As you can see Galchenyuk falls awkwardly after being hit by Marian Hossa injuring his knee.
Following the game the Canadiens confirmed rumors that the young forward would indeed miss the opening round series against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Alex Galchenyuk suffered a lower-body injury and will not be available for the first round of the playoffs.

Luckily for Habs fans the injury does not appear to be serious and thankfully is not the same knee that cost Galchenyuk an entire season in the OHL. With the Habs lacking a bit in terms of scoring depth this injury could be a serious blow particularly on a power play that is now 0 for it's last 19 with the man advantage. Even with Brandon Prust and Lars Eller likely returning soon the Canadiens may call someone up from Hamilton as an insurance policy for the series.
