Canadiens assign 2 players to Bulldogs: Christian Thomas & Darren Dietz cut

New, comments

The Canadiens have cut two more players, but are yet to make final cuts going into the season.

The Montreal Canadiens have announced that they have assigned Darren Dietz and Christian Thomas to their AHL affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs.

Both players were big surprises in preseason play, with Thomas impressing with his non-stop motor in all three zones, and consistent net drive. Thomas factored in on two game winning goals early in the preseason, and drew consistent praise from the coaching staff. He is likely the first call up in case of injury, and should be a dominating offensive force in the AHL.

Dietz on the other hand, was a steady, if unspectacular presence on the blueline, shocking everyone by outlasting not only Davis Drewiske, but also Greg Pateryn, who was assumed by many to be the seventh defenseman of choice for the Habs.

The remaining players on the roster that may be cut within the next couple days include Jacob de la Rose, Jarred Tinordi, Francis Bouillon, Travis Moen, Peter Budaj, and Dustin Tokarski. The Canadiens' coaching staff has some tough choices to make.
