Karl Alzner recalled from the AHL by the Montreal Canadiens

The veteran defenceman is back in the fold in Montreal.

After clearing waivers and being sent to the AHL earlier this season, Karl Alzner has been recalled by the Montreal Canadiens.

The move was made necessary by an upper-body injury to David Schlemko that has placed him on the Injured Reserve list, leaving an open spot on the left side of the defence. Alzner will be joining the team for its end-of-year road trip that begins on Friday night against the Florida Panthers.

He played one full season on the five-year deal he signed in the 2017 off-season last year, and had played just eight games with the NHL team when he was placed on waivers in late November.

With the Laval Rocket in the AHL, Alzner played 10 games, scoring a goal in his first one and adding an assist along the way.
