Entering the final year of his entry-level contract. Kaiden Guhle has a new extension with the Montreal Canadiens, a six-year deal that will end after the 2030-31 NHL season.

The contract will have a cap hit of $5.55 million per season. The contract is worth $33.3 million. The team announced the signing on Wednesday, and was the third signing announced this week. Guhle’s contract will start in the 2025-26 season.

Montreal’s first-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft just completed his second season with the Habs, playing 70 games in 2023-24. He finished with new career highs in goals (six) and assists (16), ending with a -8 rating while playing a heavy defensive role.

The 22-year-old defenceman has the potential to become a top-pairing defenceman on the team, and this contract indicates that Kent Hughes is confident he will reach that level. Guhle is one of the leaders of the Habs’ overflowing blue-line depth, and will be for several years to come.

Like Juraj Slafkovský, who signed an eight-year contract, Guhle was eligible to sign an extension as of July 1.
