Josh Brook will play for Team Canada at the 2019 World Junior Hockey Championship

Invited to play a few evaluation games versus U Sports athletes, Montreal Canadiens defence prospect Josh Brook has made Team Canada’s final roster that will compete in the 2019 World Junior Hockey Championship in British Columbia.

Brook’s place on the team was not assured, as Canada had a wealth of talent on the blue line, especially on the right side. Having the ability to also play on the left likely played a role in his inclusion on the team, and he will be counted on to help out the team’s offence from the back end. He was paired with Edmonton Oilers prospect Evan Bouchard during the evaluation games.

The defenceman has previous experience at the international level, competing in the Hlinka Cup two years ago. This will be his first appearance in under-20 play for his country.

Forward prospect Nick Suzuki is still well in the mix, and has been one of the top forwards for the Owen Sound Attack. He had 20 goals and 23 assists in the 28 OHL games he played before joining Canada’s prelimary squad, ranking 10th in the league. He is expected to be on the team once the final forward cuts are announced, but nothing is official at this time.
