Jonathan Drouin day-to-day with upper body injury

Montreal Canadiens forward Jonathan Drouin was supposed to play today alongside Max Pacioretty and Brendan Gallagher but has been ruled out with an upper-body injury. The team is saying he is day-to-day.

He did skate this morning, so either the injury happened during the morning skate, or he is being held out as a precaution.

Torrey Mitchell will take his place in the lineup. No word on who will centre the Habs top line against the Maple Leafs tonight.

Whether the Canadiens just put Mitchell or Jacob de la Rose in Drouin’s spot as opposed to promoting Tomas Plekanec or Phillip Danault may give an indication to how serious the injury actually is.

Here is how the Canadiens will line up against the Maple Leafs.

Tonight would have been Drouin’s second pre-season game of the year. He picked up an assist in his Canadiens “debut” against the Washington Capitals last week.

He joins David Schlemko and Andrew Shaw among Canadiens regulars who are nursing injuries. They are also listed as day-to-day.
