Joel Armia out six to eight weeks with a knee injury

The Montreal Canadiens’ injury woes aren’t getting any better in the early going of this season. With Shea Weber and Tomas Plekanec out to start, they’ve already lost Paul Byron for a few weeks. Then comes another blow to their top nine, with Joel Armia now sidelined for the next two months.

Armia took the brunt of a knee-on-knee hit by Brendan Smith in the Canadiens’ loss to the New York Rangers on Tuesday night.

With Armia destined for the Injured Reserve list, the Canadiens will likely add another body from the Laval Rocket, or recall Nikita Scherbak from his conditioning stint in the AHL.
