When your luck is bad, sometimes it only gets worse. The Montreal Canadiens have been brutally plagued with injuries this year, and while they haven’t played well, that has been a big part of their slide down the standings. The defence has been particularly bad lately, and now they’ll have to do without Jeff Petry for the rest of the year.
Habs announce Jeff Petry is done for the season, will have surgery for a sports hernia.

Petry had been day-to-day for some time, but sports hernia surgery is naturally something that takes some time to recover from. I’m slightly puzzled as to why it took so long to diagnose this problem, but having seen people go through that surgery, I understand why he’s done for the year.
This is a major blow to any playoff hopes that remain, as the Canadiens are already without Tom Gilbert for the remainder of the season. Looks like guys like Victor Bartley and Greg Pateryn will be getting a real chance to prove that they belong in the NHL permanently.
