With an early deadline looming for several players who were a part of the Laval Rocket last season, the Canadiens have decided on one of those players. With an early announcement on Friday morning, they confirmed the signing of Jared Davidson to a two-year entry-level contract to begin in 2024-25.
A five-year player in the WHL with the Seattle Thunderbirds, Davidson was selected by the Canadiens in the fifth round of the 2022 NHL draft as an over-ager. Somewhat of a late bloomer in the WHL, his potential became clearer in his later years there, earning draft consideration through his 210 points posted during his time there.
Making his professional debut last season with the Rocket, Davidson performed well with 16 points through 38 games. His 11 goals were actually good for third place in rookie scoring behind only Joshua Roy and Logan Mailloux. He shouldn’t be expected to challenge for a roster spot in Montreal next year, but will surely get a chance at an expanded role with the AHL club, and build on his rookie campaign successes.
