The Canadiens were struggling to get anything going in the third period, down 3-2 to the Oilers. But a good job by Tomas Tatar to keep the play alive allowed the puck to eventually get on the stick of Jesperi Kotkaniemi, and the rookie used his long reach to pull the puck in front of the goal line and over Mikko Koskinen for the tying goal.
