A road trip to St. Johns and a goal fest at home saw the Bulldogs come away with some desperately needed wins.

Bulldogs Player of the Week: Charles Hudon

The rookie from Alma, Quebec continues to be a major threat for the Bulldogs in his rookie campaign, registering three points this weekend. Hudon kicked off his week in a big way by scoring two goals against the St. Johns IceCaps to help the Bulldogs break their losing streak. After opening the scoring, Hudon also notched the game-winning goal in overtime when he rifled a beautiful shot past Connor Hellebuyck. In Sunday afternoon's goal fest, Hudon set up Rene Bourque's first goal as a Bulldog en route to a 5-4 overtime win. Following this weekend Hudon now sits just two points behind Providence's David Pastrnak for the rookie scoring lead in the AHL.

The Games

Vs the St. Johns IceCaps

The Bulldogs began their three-game weekend out in the Maritimes against the IceCaps the AHL affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets. The Dogs quickly found themselves in a hole down 2-0 midway through the opening period due to goals from Patrice Cormier and Ryan Olsen. Hamilton didn't go down without a fight however, as Magnus Nygren continued to heat up and blasted home his second goal of the year with Jarred Tinordi and Gabriel Dumont registering assists on the play.

Gabriel Dumont leveled the game 2-2 early in the third period with Jake Dowell and Daniel Carr assisting on the play. The IceCaps would not be denied and Keaton Ellerby scored from the point to seal the win for St. Johns. Joey MacDonald stopped 25 out of 28 shots while Connor Hellebuyck stopped 25 of 27 for the win.

Vs the St. Johns IceCaps

Before Saturday night's rematch against St. Johns there was a bit of controversy in the Hamilton locker room as head coach Sylvain Lefebvre healthy scratched Sven Andrighetto. Andrighetto is not only the team's leading scorer but arguably the best player on the ice every night for a struggling Hamilton side. With Andrighetto out the rookie sensation Charles Hudon stepped up to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-1 victory. Hudon opened the scoring less than two minutes into the first period converting a Rene Bourque pass into his third goal of the season.

John Albert tied the game for St. Johns as he corralled an Austen Brassard shot and slid the puck past Mike Condon. After a scoreless third period the Dogs and IceCaps headed off to overtime where Hamilton has struggled this year. Hudon put an end to said struggles by sniping the game-winning goal top-shelf past Connor Hellebuyck with Eric Tangradi grabbing the only assist. Condon stopped 27 shots in the Hamilton win while Hellebuyck stopped 40 in the loss.

Vs the Rochester Amerks

The Bulldogs matched up against their North Division rival on Sunday and it  was all offense from both sides in a close contest. Noted Bulldogs killer Luke Adam opened the scoring midway through the first period for Rochester, but after that it was all Hamilton on the score sheet. The Bulldogs notched four goals in the span of eight minutes to seemingly put the game out of reach early on.

Rene Bourque scored his first as a Bulldog to start the run of goals and was quickly followed by Jacob de la Rose. Following that, Greg Pateryn and Gabriel Dumont each added power play goals to put Hamilton up 4-1. The second period was the polar opposite of the first with the Amerks storming back and putting three goals past Condon to even the game at 4-4. The third period shockingly did not feature any goals and once again the Bulldogs headed off to overtime. This time T.J. Hensick played the hero by ripping a wrist shot past Andrey Makarov and earning the Bulldogs a big two points. Condon stopped 39 out of 43 shots while Makarov stopped 31 of 36 for the Amerks.

The Bulldogs record currently stands at 6-7-2 with 14 points which places them fourth in the AHL's North Division and tenth overall in the Western Conference. Hamilton will be back in action on November 19th when they visit the division leading Utica Comets and return home on the 21st to face the Toronto Marlies.
