The National Hockey League free agent period has begun, and all of the big names are off the board. The Montreal Canadiens added some solid pieces to their roster, but still haven’t really replaced Phillip Danault, now in Los Angeles, and the injured Shea Weber.
Jared Book and Matt Drake get together on the latest episode of Habsent Minded to discuss the pieces, and both of them can’t shake the feeling that there is more to come.
The Canadiens have 10 NHL wingers for eight spots (now down to nine with Paul Byron’s injury — news that came while the podcast was being recorded and is discussed as well). They also haven’t replaced what Phillip Danault brought to the team.
One name that is out there is Buffalo Sabres centre Jack Eichel. The Canadiens have the need, and they have the means to acquire him. Is it worth the risk?
