Habsent Minded Episode 3.57: Cole Caufield’s fantastic debut

New, comments

Remember when we said the future looked bright? It would seem like the future has now landed in Laval.

A dynamic duo turned into a tremendous trio as Patrik Bexell was joined by both Jared Book and Anton Rasegård for a Habsent Minded episode taking place the morning after Cole Caufield’s frantic debut in a Laval Rocket jersey. That game followed the news that Caufield had been awarded the 2021 Hobey Baker Award, as the most outstanding player in college hockey.

After scoring three points – two goals and an assist – Caufieldmania is at an all time high in Habsland and the question becomes whether there are reasons to pump the brakes just a little bit before fully jumping on the hype train?

During the early games of this NCAA season, our brilliant prospect analyst David St-Louis asked if Caufield was simply trying to do too much himself on a weak Badgers team. Can we see a difference in his confidence and playing style now compared to at the start of this season?

While the Montreal Canadiens are mixing highs with lows on a day-to-day basis, the Rocket seem to continue on a steadfast trajectory toward the moon. Joël Bouchard has created an impressive mix of veterans and young guns, who seem comfortable with making the most out of their opportunities. Does the fact that Caufield has several players in the same age group thriving under Bouchard make us more confident in his ability to make a seamless transition to pro-league hockey?

In a galaxy far, far away, Mattias Norlinder is getting ready for the first SHL post-season of his young career. For more information about what his head coach, Roger Rönnberg, has to say about the defenceman’s rookie season, please listen to Patrik Bexell’s latest interview with him in The Dispatch.
