Habsent Minded Episode 4.29: The Habs go west with a win

Go west, life is peaceful there. Go west, in the open air. Could the trip give the Canadiens a chance to breathe and glue together?

NHL: Detroit Red Wings at Montreal Canadiens Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports

The Montreal Canadiens ended their four-game homestand by finally beating their ghost of Christmas past, the Detroit Red Wings. In this episode of Habsent Minded, Jared Book and Anton Rasegård discuss Mathieu Perreault’s unlikely hat trick and why a local player doing well hits differently with the local fans.

It’s hard to know what to make of this team. Yes, they are coming off a Stanley Cup final appearance, but were in the second half of the league standings during the regular season. A similar story occurred the year before, where the Habs would have been on the outside looking in, if not for COVID-19 creating an extended post-season entry list.

So what should we expect during the rest of this year? If situations don’t improve and the game continues to look like during the opening five losses, will management put Dominique Ducharme on the hot seat? Would we be okay with a tanking season, if it meant that Montreal in the end would get their hands on a top prospect for years to come?
