TSN hockey analyst and former Montreal Canadiens player Mike Johnson joins Jared on this episode of Habsent Minded.
A wide range of topics are covered, starting with Johnson’s approach to broadcasting. Then he’s asked whether he would have paid attention to analytics if they were available when he played and his approach to using them on broadcasts.
Johnson then puts on his analyst hat to talk about the current version of the Canadiens, from the team’s top line, to the struggling power play and the play of Carey Price.
Then we get to talking about his one season in Montreal. From playing with Saku Koivu, to playing under Guy Carbonneau. Johnson gives a great anecdote about Koivu’s leadership, and he has nothing but praise for the former captain. He also gives his perspective on what it was like to play in Montreal and why it suits some players and not others.
The interview ends with Johnson talking about the players on the current team he feels are most underrated.
