The Canadiens roster is three players shorter than it was this time yesterday. Per Canadiens.com:
Three players were released from Canadiens training camp on Sunday afternoon.
Forwards Michael McCarron and Sebastian Collberg are headed back to their respective clubs. McCarron will return to the OHL’s London Knights, while Collberg will rejoin Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League.
Goaltender Dustin Tokarski was also cut. He will take part in training camp with the Hamilton Bulldogs.
All three of these moves were expected, at least to some degree. McCarron acquitted himself well in his first foray into professional hockey, showing his strength, smarts, and skill, while proving himself more than capable of competing physically with NHLers. McCarron will return to the OHL’s London Knights, where he will look to establish himself as an impact player on a loaded team.
Sebastian Collberg, meanwhile, will be headed back to the Frolunda Indians of the SHL. Collberg flashed some skill, but never appeared quite ready to make the jump to the big leagues. With a little more size and strength, Collberg will be well-equipped to fight for a roster spot this time next year.
Dustin Tokarski, meanwhile, is headed back to the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs, provided he is able to clear waivers. While Tokarski is not the only goaltender with AHL experience to be waived recently, there is a slight chance he is claimed by another organization. The Habs and Bulldogs will keep their fingers crossed, as the young and skilled team set to lineup in the Hammer will rely on Tokarski’s veteran presence in the crease this year.
