Over the weekend, I strayed across the Twitter page of Alan Doyle, actor, producer, songwriter, and lead singer of one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s biggest exports, Great Big Sea. Knowing Mr. Doyle is a big fan of the Montreal Canadiens, I approached him to get his thoughts on the Habs for the upcoming season.
Surprisingly, and on a Labour Day holiday, he was quick to give us some quick, and rather optimistic thoughts for 2011-12.
Doyle, who is a bit of a goalie and reportedly brings his street hockey gear on tour, came straight out with a prediction that the Canadiens will beat the Chicago Blackhawks in six games to win the Stanley Cup. That prediction shouldn’t be considered too far off, considering that this past season, both teams took the eventual Stanley Cup finalists to seven games in the first round.
He then predicted that Tomas Plekanec would have an 80+ point season, and that the Canadiens will have a top-five power play. The key for Doyle’s big playoff predictions will be Carey Price, whom he sees taking home both the Vezina and Hart Trophies.
On the blueline, Doyle said the pairing of Hal Gill and P.K. Subban will “rock the joint (Bell Centre).”

Alan and the boy’s had a chance to sing the national anthem at the Bell Centre a few years back. The video below sees them cheering on the players, notably their hometown boy Michael Ryder, as they take to the ice.
