With a new contract set to kick in this season, Canadiens defenceman Josh Gorges has decided to put some money back towards his hometown.
The Kelowna Capital News reports Gorges, and the NHLPA’s Goals and Dream program, will begin providing families who can’t afford the costs of minor hockey the chance to suit up in the Kelowna Minor Hockey Association.
It’s always a plus to see NHL players giving back to the communities, where many skated for the first time in their lives. Minor and Junior programs/teams in many areas have struggled in recent years, due to operating costs, etc., with some forced to fold all together. Commitment such as this will ensure that leagues and teams can carry on for a long time.
