“Some adjustments will be made”: Geoff Molson talks about the state of the Habs
He touches on all aspects of the organization
Geoff Molson was at an event to meet the King and Queen of Belgium today, and the owner of the Montreal Canadiens spoke to the media about the state of the franchise.
Notably, he said to expect some adjustments this summer.
Molson: “We’ve got some work to do between now and the end of the season...No changes have been made, no adjustments have been made and they will be made. Some adjustments will be made.” #TSN690

But don’t expect one of those adjustments to be a new general manager.
Geoff Molson says he’s confident that Marc Bergevin can get the Canadiens back on track. He also said he doesn’t anticipate changing management structure going into next season #TSN690

However, that doesn’t mean that Molson is happy about the situation the team is in.
Molson on Habs struggles: “I’m not really going to point any fingers. I think if you look from top to bottom, there have been elements. So you can look at players, coaching, scouting, player dev, you can look at GM...there are areas to improve and that’s what we’ll do.” #TSN690

Molson asked in French if #Habs need to make playoffs nxt r: “It depends. I think our team has to win. We’ll always do everything to win for our fans... You always have to want to make the playoffs, but I’m not sure how I want to express myself re: next year #TSN690

He also touched upon if the Canadiens need to get a franchise player.
Molson: “Do we need a franchise player? Probably. But I see that as an opportunity for us.” Opportunity to possibly add one? Hmmm who would that be??? #TSN690

All things considered, Molson did say some interesting things here. It means that although he looks to be bringing Marc Bergevin back for another season, it does not mean that the status quo is good enough.
Him mentioning coaching, scouting, and player development outright means that there could be changes in that department.
We know that the Canadiens have gotten a close look at the Laval Rocket lately, and you have to wonder whether that is to get a good handle of what is going on with the Canadiens AHL team.
After a year where there were no NHL or AHL coaching staff changes, except for the departure of Clement Jodoin, this summer may be a little different even if the person in charge remains the same.
