Game Thread – Pittsburgh Penguins vs New York Islanders

Sidney Crosby and the Penguins have had all they can handle from the upstart Islanders. What many billed as being a mismatch has been anything but, with the Islanders holding the edge in play while the score is tied with a 52.32% Fenwick, and the both teams being exactly even while the score is close.

Former Montreal Canadiens defenseman Mark Streit has lead the Islanders with 5 points in 5 games. Remember when Carbonneau thought he wasn’t good enough to play on defense over guys like Brisebois, Komisarek, and Bouillon? Yikes.

With Marc-Andre Fivehole on the bench though, the Islanders actually have to face a good goaltender now in Tomas Vokoun. Vokoun made an instant impact in the previous game, shutting out Long Island with 31 saves.

The goaltending for the Isles has been very MAF-like in it’s own right, with Evgeni Nabokov in his usual playoff form with a .847 save percentage. At this point, it seems like Kevin Poulin would be a better option behind John Tavares and co.

Either way, the series has been a thriller, and it’s the only game tonight. It should be a gooder.
