“They don’t shoot a lot harder, the thing is the game goes faster” – Frederik Dichow

We have Frederik Dichow, the Montreal Canadiens Danish goalie prospect, with us for this episode. The Dane gives us a rundown on his time in the Swedish U20 playoffs, signing with the Ontario Hockey League’s Sudbury Wolves – and then not playing – before signing with Sweden’s and HockeyAllsvenskan’s Kristianstad.

In regards to signing with Sudbury, Frederik Dichow says that Montreal wanted him to try the North American rinks and the faster paced game. The Wolves had drafted him in the CHL Import Draft, and it was a good choice at the time. However, due to the OHL season not being played, Dichow had to stay in Denmark and practice hard, building up his strength all over but especially in the lower body. Stamina is maybe the most important thing that Dichow has built up.

“You need to play the last period as it is the first,” he said.

Dichow got to play in the Danish Metalligaen and even if it was only six games, he thinks it benefitted him and his development.

We also speak about the reasons to move to Kristianstad, and the support for that decision not only from the Canadiens, but also from the Sudbury Wolves.

“I spoke with them and they were super supportive. They understood my decision … and [there are] no hard feelings.” Montreal is also supportive of the move.

“They think it is great that I get here and get this experience,” he said.

In Kristianstad, Dichow will share the responsibilities with Olof Lindbom a New York Rangers 2018 second-round pick. The sharing of the responsibilities is something that Dichow thinks is good. As with all players, Dichow looks forward to playing in front of a crowd again and the impression he has gotten of the Kristianstad fans means he is already charged for the season.
