Evening links for dormant Habs fans

Well watching the Carolina Hurricanes visiting the Toronto Maple Leafs was just not in the cards for me tonight, so I thought some evening reading would be in store.

As the February 28 trade deadline approaches, the rumor mills will start flying. An interesting observation was made by CTV’s Arpon Basu when he spotted Habs GM Pierre Gauthier in a rather public meeting with Florida Panthers GM Dale Tallon before Wednesday’s game.

“Sure, GMs will cross paths in the dinner line and say hello, or even chat a little bit, but rarely will it be anything more than that.

This, on the other hand, appeared to be a meeting, and a pre-arranged one at that. Neither man was eating, and the two of them were even pouring over that night’s game notes, where both teams rosters happen to be conveniently listed.

The meeting, or whatever you want to call it, lasted at least half an hour – at least that’s how long it had been when I had to leave for the start of the game”

Begin your speculations, but I honestly don’t expect Chris Higgins to be making a return to the Habs at any time soon.

JD from “The H Does not stand for Habs” makes a comparison of Tomas Plekanec and Brian Gionta.

Our own Francis Bouchard came across this piece on a pair of his hometown heroes, five-time Cup winner with the Habs Claude Larose and the Philadelphia Flyers Claude Giroux . Hearst, ON is also the hometown of ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun.

Joe Pelletier may have found a guy who knew how Rick DiPietro felt last night. Yes, that’s the late Habs legend Gump Worsley in his Minnesota North Stars days.

Jaroslav Spacek on his first game in the NHL

Nice piece on the Florida Panthers Scott Timmins , who scored his first NHL goal Wednesday night in Montreal.

Construction is underway in Calgary, in preparation for the Heritage Classic. Check out the goalie sticks used in the snow removal clip.

Hey it’s Andrei Kostitisyn’s Birthday: The best birthday wish came from Mike Orband, more commonly known on Twitter as HabsLaughs ; “AK46’s birthday! His present? A one way ticket to the NHL city of your GM’s choice!”. Orband later tweeted, “I’d give my big toe to see Danny Kristo make the NHL.”

The elder Kostitsyn has 13 goals and 16 assists through 51 games, while little brother Sergei Kostitsyn has 12 goals and 16 assists in 48 games. One is making $2.7 million less than the other. Anyone starting to think that Pierre Gauthier traded the wrong Belorussian?
