David Schlemko recalled from the AHL’s Laval Rocket by the Montreal Canadiens

After missing the last several weeks with a hand injury, David Schlemko has finally recovered, playing Friday night’s game with the Laval Rocket in the AHL. After registering a point and three shots in an overtime win, the Montreal Canadiens recalled him this morning.

Starting the season with 24 men on the roster, the Canadiens needed to make a move to be able to activate Schlemko, and the decision was to place Mark Streit on waivers earlier in the week.

Where Schlemko fits into the lineup will be the thing to watch for. The thinking was that Victor Mete’s place alongside Shea Weber was temporary as the team waited for Schlemko to return. But Mete did more in that role than anyone expected, and has made his case to stay on the top pairing even with a full complement of healthy defenders available.

The most likely destination is on the third pair with Brandon Davidson, replacing Jordie Benn. We’ll find out what Claude Julien’s plan is later today.
