Daniel Jacob joins the Laval Rocket coaching staff

After hiring Joël Bouchard, the Laval Rocket let go of former assistant coaches Nick Carriere and Donald Dufresne as well. To fill part of that void, Bouchard has brought in  one of his assistantss from Blainville-Boisbriand: Daniel Jacob.

Jacob had spent time in the USports system as an assistant at McGill before he joined the Armada staff in 2014-15 under Bouchard’s tutelage. This past year he also served as an assistant coach on Canada’s U-18 team at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.

Given the success of the Armada in the QMJHL in recent seasons, bringing on a familiar face was a no-brainer for Bouchard, and gives him a solid base to build the rest of his coaching staff around.

It’s unclear who else may be in the running for the other open positions, but Francis Boullion has spent parts of previous seasons working as a guest coach at practices in St. John’s and would be a practical hire. Another potential name could be former Stanley Cup champion Pascal Dupuis, who is a good friend of Bouchard’s and was common fixture at Armada games in recent seasons.

Regardless of the next hire, Bouchard will have chosen them for good reasons, much like he has with Jacob today.
