Cole Caufield signs his entry-level contract with the Montreal Canadiens

Drafted 15th overall in 2019 by the Montreal Canadiens, Cole Caufield chose the NCAA route for his development to prepare for the NHL game. After two years, he’s leaving the University of Wisconsin to join the professional ranks.

The contract will start this season, and will be for three years.  It will expire after the 2022-23 season.

After Wisconsin ended their NCAA tournament with a loss to Bemidji State in the opening round on Friday, it became apparent that the next stage in Caufield’s career was imminent. He had two goals and an assist in the 6-3 loss.

In 66 career NCAA games, Caufield scored 47 goals and added 38 assists. He added three goals and four assists in 12 World Junior Championship games.

He is a candidate for the Hobey Baker Award for top player in NCAA men’s hockey.

The 20-year-old will now quarantine when he arrives in Montreal. At that point he will be eligible to join either the Laval Rocket in the AHL or the Canadiens in the NHL.

UPDATE:

CTT: Caufield’s quick adaptability is the key to his accurate release
