Chris Terry has been one of the IceCaps top’ playmakers ever since he came on board for the 2016-17 season. But during the month of February, the 27-year-old was a force to reckoned with.
For his efforts, he was named the player of the month in the American Hockey League; the first member of the Montreal Canadiens’ AHL affiliate to earn the honour since Max Pacioretty and David Desharnais accomplished that feat in back-to-back months with the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2010.
Both he and fellow teammate Charles Hudon have gone neck-and-neck in goals, both finishing January with 12 apiece and wrapping up February with 21 each. Terry, however, is in a league of his own when it comes to producing points.
During the 12 games he played in February, he tallied more than a point per game, racking up a league-high 18 points (9 G, 9 A) and holds a +9 rating.
In 38 games played, not only does Terry sit in first place on the IceCaps, but he’s second in the league with 50 points (21G, 29A) and is also second in the league with 12 power-play goals.
This is Terry’s eighth year playing pro. In his 418 career AHL games, he’s registered 381 points (148 G, 209 A). He’s also tallied four points (2 G, 2 A) in the 14 games he suited up with the Montreal Canadiens for this season.
While he was up with the Habs, his absence was felt. Coach Sylvain Lefebvre praises his star player saying, “Chris is there every night, and it doesn’t matter which position he plays; I’ve played him at centre and the wing. He’s our go to guy on the power play.”
With Terry just getting better as the season rolls on, the IceCaps just may be able to clinch that playoff spot that’s currently within their grasp.
