Catching The Torch: Sept 29-Oct. 6 Edition

With neither the AHL or the NCAA yet to commence their seasons but a number of Canadiens prospects already in action, I thought I would offer a shorter report on those currently playing rather than wait to begin my full column, currently slated to premiere on October 14th. My traditional "Three Stars" will be held up until the Hamilton Bulldogs return to action as they represent about half the prospect base to be covered in Catching the Torch this season. However Catching the Torch will honour a Player of the Week with this format.

- This week's update covers an extra day due to last week's update being published early and missing action for the the 29th of September. All future updates will cover the week from Monday to Sunday, to be published on the following Monday.

Catching The Torch Player of the Week:

LW Charles Hudon: Arguably the premiere offensive talent of the Montreal Canadiens amateur prospects and certainly their finest QMJHL prospect, Charles Hudon has started on a solid pace to begin his junior season with the team he captains, the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. Hudon would pick up a pair of assists to start his week in a 4-2 victory for Chicoutimi over the Drummondville Voltigeurs. Hudon would next mark a single assist in a 2-1 loss to the Victoriaville Tigres. Hudon would have another two-assist effort against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar but Chicoutimi fell short of victory in a 3-2 victory for Baie-Comeau. Hudon would mark another assist against Baie-Comeau as the teams finished a home-and-away set in Chicoutimi but saw no better result, in a 4-2 victory for Baie-Comeau. Hudon is currently riding a 6-game points streak, having scored 3 goals and 6 assists in his last 6 games. Charles Hudon was drafted in the 5th round, 122nd overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2012 NHL Draft.
