Catching the Torch: Nov. 18-24 Edition

The Three Stars

1. G Dustin Tokarski

Leading off the Three Stars this week, Hamilton Bulldogs netminder Dustin Tokarski has seen fit to reward the Hamilton Bulldogs after establishing him as their starting goalie. Tokarski would begin his week with a 30-save performance versus the Texas Stars as the Bulldogs would rout the Stars in a 5-1 victory. He would appear just as brilliant in the following game, as he would make 25 stops in a special appearance as the Hamilton Bulldogs took to the Bell Centre ice against the Syracuse Crunch, allowing the Bulldogs to take a 4-1 victory. His best work was saved for the following night, as the Bulldogs would visit Syracuse at home and he would put on an outstanding 43-save performance for the first shutout of his season. Tokarski would finish the week with a .67 Goals Against Average and a .980 save percentage, which raised his season statistics to a 1.91 Goals Against Average and a .935 save percentage, his record is now 8-3-1 over 12 starts. Tokarski is 2nd in the AHL in Goals Against Average, 3rd in Save Percentage. Dustin Tokarski was drafted in the 5th round, 122nd overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2008 NHL Draft and was acquired by the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Cedrick Desjardins.

2. LW Charles Hudon

ThWhile he has not had a dazzling offensive season so far in the QMJHL, it seems the prospect of representating his country in an international setting has fired up Charles Hudon. Hudon began the week playing in the QMJHL segment of the Super Series, featuring top Russian junior skaters versus the best Canadian players in the QMJHL. He would score two goals and assist on the eventual game-winning goal in a 3-2 victory for Team QMJHL over Team Russia. He would mark an assist in the following game, as Team QMJHL edged a 4-3 result to sweep their 2-game set. Upon his return to the Chicoutimi Saguenéens, Hudon would mark one of his finest games to date in the QMJHL. In a dominant 6-3 victory over the Charlottetown Islanders, he would score two goals and three assists, the first five-point game in his QMJHL career. He would miss out on the scoresheet in his final game of the week, a 2-0 loss for Chicoutimi to the Moncton Wildcats. Hudon currently leads Chicoutimi in scoring with 29 points. Charles Hudon was drafted in the 5th round, 122nd overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2013 NHL Draft.

3. G Zach Fucale

The workhorse netminder of the Halifax Mooseheads Zach Fucale has been on a hot streak of late and it has translated to some impressive statistics. Fucale would start his first game of the week in nets for Team QMJHL in the Super Series, featuring top Russian junior skaters versus the best Canadian players in the QMJHL. He would make 19 saves on 21 shots as Team QMJHL would edge a 3-2 victory over Russia. His return to the Halifax Mooseheads would see him maintain his excellence, as he would make 25 saves on 27 shots as the Mooseheads would rout the Acadie-Bathurst Titan 9-2. He would take his game further the following night, pitching a 22-save shutout against the Saint John Sea Dogs. Including the Super Series game, Fucale’s save percentage for the week comes out to an impressive .943 and a 1.33 Goals Against Average. Fucale is 4th in the QMJHL in Goals Against Average at 2.62 and 11th in save percentage at .897 while holding a 17-5-0 record.
