Carey Price out indefinitely after suffering a concussion

Claude Julien announced today that Carey Price will now be out for the foreseeable future. The team announced he is out indefinitely with a concussion.

The concussion likely happened after taking a Shayne Gostisbehere shot to the head against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday. Price stayed in the game.

The Canadiens goalie missed practice on Wednesday, and prompted the emergency recall of Charlie Lindgren.

Now we know why. This serves as a double blow to a Montreal team in need of some good news, as today they also learned that Shea Weber will be out for the remainder of the year due to foot surgery.

In the interim it’s likely that Lindgren and veteran Antti Niemi will split the workload for the remaining 23 games, or until Price returns. Given how this season has gone, there’s absolutely no reason to rush the franchise netminder back from such a major injury.

Niemi will start Thursday against the New York Rangers.
