Canadiens vs. Red Wings: Game thread, roster, lines, and how to watch

The Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings are two very old, and very proud hockey clubs that have fallen to the wayside. Both clubs are in the running for the best shot at the first overall pick this year, and the game between them tonight is extremely important in that regard.

Led by Dylan Larkin and the ageless Henrik Zetterberg, the Red Wings have struggled to generate much, if any noise this year, but are still more than capable of posting plenty of goals against a lacking Montreal team. Other young stars like Anthony Mantha and Gustav Nyquist highlight a rather meager side from Michigan, while in net Jimmy Howard and Jared Coreau have been underwhelming to say the least.

The last time these teams met, it was arguably the high point of Montreal’s season, with a pair of back to back routs, including a 10-1 affair that was capped off by a Paul Byron hat trick. Since then both sides have slid down the rankings, and in Montreal’s case lost most of their star players to various injuries.

It won’t be an instant classic, but at least it’s a matchup between two of the nicest sweaters in the NHL.
