Canadiens vs Panthers Top Six Minutes: Artturi Lehkonen steals the show

For our new readers and members, the Top Six Minutes is a continuation of the discussion in the game thread. We try to keep it light and entertaining. Full recaps are up the morning after every game.

First Period

  • No Weber, no Benn. Montreal’s beard/60 took a significant hit.
  • In 40 years NHL players will all be androids. Except for Markov and Jagr, of course.
  • The first line continues to generate offence. Say what you will about Danault’s ideal usage, but he knows his role and does a good job finding Pacioretty and Radulov in the offensive zone.
  • The Habs have four shots on net, and all four have been decent scoring chances.
  • Great setup by Lehkonen and Galchenyuk on that Shaw goal. I’m used to Galchenyuk doing great things with the puck, but Lehkonen is a 10-year veteran rookie. He almost always makes the right decision. 1-0 Habs.
  • The first line has at least…many quality chances so far tonight. They’re on pace to have a boatload, and possibly even a shit-ton. /

Second Period

  • Petry has looked so much better since he was split up from Emelin.
  • Byron hits the post. That could have been his 23rd (!!!) goal of the year. And to think the Flames chose to keep Brandon Bollig over Ti-Paul. To be fair, Bollig does have 10 goals this year, in the AHL.
  • So far so good for Charlie Lindgren…and the Panthers scored as I was typing that. Well then.
  • Jonathan Marchessault’s 30th of the year, just like we all predicted before the season started. 1-1.
  • Radulov just made MacKenzie look sillier than, well, I really don’t have an appropriate idiom for this situation, but MacKenzie definitely looked silly:/

  • Two-man advantage for the Panthers for over a minute and a half. Godspeed, Lindgren.
  • Success! /

Third Period

  • Make that 15 goals for Artturi Lehkonen and his ridiculous release. 2-1 Habs.
  • Does Lehkonen have the best release on this team? No, that has to be Pacioretty…right?
  • If you give up 3 vs 1 rushes during a powerplay you’re gonna have a bad time.
  • This is the ugliest powerplay since that time Lyle Odelein got a few shifts on the man-advantage during the 1991 season.
  • God, I miss Odelein. Remember that time he scored a hat trick? Legend.
  • It’s a shame Danault will have to give up his number when the Habs retire Odelein’s jersey.
  • When Lehkonen and Galchenyuk are on the ice every shot is a dangerous shot.
  • It’s official, your Montreal Canadiens are the Atlantic Division kings.
  • They can use the banner to level out the freezer that they keep the pucks in, because this isn’t the Ottawa Senators we’re talking about. Division titles are nice, but mean little in the long run.
  • Lehkonen is a rookie! A ROOKIE. 3-1 Habs off a huge blast by the Finn.
  • Alex Radulov’s smile is life. 4-1 Habs.
  • The Habs eclipse 100 points for the third time in four years! /
