The Edmonton Oilers have been having a tough go of it of late. After losses in their last four games, surrendering at least four goals in each, they’re outside of the playoff picture yet again.
It wasn’t supposed to be this way for the Oilers, with a generational talent giving them the best possible foundation to build a Stanley Cup contender upon. Instead, management has been unable to fill in the rest of the pieces of the puzzle, and Connor McDavid has been left to his own devices to try to keep the club afloat.
Even he hasn’t been able to produce during the current losing streak. He was held pointless in two of those contests — a rarity for a player with back-to-back 100-point seasons — though he is still comfortably among the top 10 NHL scorers.
The Canadiens have their own centreman knocking on the door to join that elite group. Max Domi is just two points behind McDavid in the Art Ross race, thanks in large part to multi-point efforts in three of his last four games.
The conditions are ideal for both players to have big games tonight, so it should be a good one to get the Western Canadian road trip kicked off.
