Canadiens vs. Maple Leafs Game Thread, roster, lines, and how to watch
In what should be the first of many meetings, the Habs face off against their oldest rivals’ newest centrepiece.
The Montreal Canadiens are back on the ice this evening, playing their third-to-last contest of the exhibition season. As expected, the roster is a significant departure from the team assembled for yesterday’s game, with the Habs set to ice about six more NHL-calibre defenders tonight than they did against Ottawa.
The real drama is up front, however, where Daniel Carr, Sven Andrighetto and Arturri Lehkonen all draw back in. With all of the Canadiens’ top six forwards absent from the game-day roster, the trio of bubble forwards should get a chance to play a more substantial role. Mike Condon is slated to get the start tonight.

Meanwhile, in the Ontario capital, all of the talk centres around new centre Auston Matthews, who will make his North American pro debut this evening. Matthews will line up beside another promising youngster in William Nylander and Zach Hyman, a puck-retrieval monster who will do his best to keep the puck on the sticks of his talented linemates.
Even with a green lineup, the Habs found a way to win against the Sens yesterday afternoon. With a little more experience on their side this time, the Canadiens will try to do the same against a Leafs roster not unlike the one that should visit the Bell Centre on October 29.
