Despite a win (not exactly a convincing one) over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday, Claude Julien is tinkering with his lineup once more for the road game versus the St. Louis Blues. Charles Hudon and Matthew Peca are out after getting one game of action, as Nicolas Deslauriers and Michael Chaput step back in after two days off.

We also see the return of Karl Alzner, who will play his first game in over a month, spelling off Mikey Reilly. And the starter gets his net back as Carey Price faces one of the league’s lowest-ranked clubs this evening.

Part of the reason for St. Louis’s low standing spot is the amount of games they’ve played. Tonight is just their 42nd contest of the year, compared to the 46 the team two points above them in the Central Division, the Chicago Blackhawks, have played. If they simply hang on to the .500 record they’ve managed in recent weeks, they will make up ground as the schedule rebalances itself.

That may not be a desirable outcome for the Blues, who are most likely missing the playoffs this season, and sit in a decent draft position right now. With reports already of players from their roster available, it’s only a matter of time before the selloff to prepare for future seasons begins.
