Game 43: Montreal Canadiens @ Utah Hockey Club

Already feeling the effects of a virus cascading through the lineup, the Canadiens are now dealing with a key injury. Rookie Emil Heineman was hit by a car in Utah yesterday, and ruled out for the next three to four weeks with an upper-body injury.

His departure will give the team something to rally around for a game that otherwise offered little motivation. Heineman is one of the team’s hardest workers and would have given them an edge with his goal-scoring talent from a bottom-six role. It will be up to the other skaters in the formation to put pucks behind Utah starter Karel Vejmelka and extend the woes of the newest franchise.

Cole Caufield just had a five-game goal-scoring streak snapped on Saturday — by a post in overtime that denied him his 24th goal and the Canadiens their first four-game winning streak. The Habs have been stringing together three wins followed by a loss for the past few weeks, so tonight could be the start of a new winning run for the team.
