We’ve reached the final game of the pre-season, and that means most of the starters will be in the lineup this evening. The exceptions are Alex Newhook, Oliver Kapanen, Ivan Demidov, Mike Matheson, and Alexandre Carrier, all players expected to make the 23-man roster but who won’t play in tonight’s contest.
That leaves one last chance for forwards Sammy Blais, Owen Beck, and Florian Xhekaj, who will make up tonight’s fourth line, and Adam Engström, who will play alongside Arber Xhekaj, to make an impression before the roster gets finalized.
Following the game in Quebec City when the Ottawa Senators decided to play with their fists instead of their sticks, they’ve been trying to set a calmer tone ahead of this game. Considering that the 5-0 loss in that game was followed up by a 7-1 defeat two days later in St. Louis, they need to have some kind of positive finish to the pre-season to set themselves up for the meaningful games. We won’t know what kind of mood the players are in until they line up at centre ice for puck drop.
