The Ottawa Senators may be climbing up toward the Atlantic Division’s seeded positions, but the Montreal Canadiens have beaten them twice already this season by a combined score of 9-3. Montreal enters the game with just one regulation loss in its past 10 games, and has its sights set on an eighth win since the 4 Nations.

It’s going to be more of a challenge than were the first two games the two teams contested. Ottawa, eager to put a long rebuild behind it, added some players at the deadline, bringing in Dylan Cozens from the Buffalo Sabres and Fabian Zetterlund from the San Jose Sharks. They wanted to help their even-strength offence take better advantage of their possession game, and so far it seems to be working.

Montreal did nothing at the deadline save for re-signing Jake Evans who was already part of the team. Yet they’ve seen their own offence go on a bit of a tear with 11 goals in the past three games, finally getting some of the depth scoring Kent Hughes felt his roster was capable of. The Habs probably need to keep that going to improve their record versus Ottawa this year to 3-0.
