Canadiens vs. Sabres Top Six Minutes: Defence Optional
It was a high-scoring game as the Habs fall to Buffalo in OT.
Pre-Game Thoughts
- Armia out 6-8 weeks with a knee injury which is a major bummer
- Buffalo should be a relatively easy test tonight. Right? What could go wrong?
- I am forced to watch the ‘away’ broadcast tonight, please pray for me/
First Period
- Yes give us all of the power plays...wait...no, I changed my mind we still don’t have man mountain back yet
- Another call on Buffalo, we’ve got some 5-on-3
- So one shot on that 5 on 3. Ok.
- Four minutes in and Domi hasn’t scored so what is even the point
- Beautiful pass from Rodrigues to Sobotka and the bad guys are up 1-0. P.S. Habs, odd-man rushes are only good when you’re the one’s doing them
- DOMI to DROUIN and all is right in the world. Tied at 1
- They almost let Bogosian score so it is going to be that kind of night I guess
- Sobotka gets his second of the night on the rebound
- Montreal challenges for goaltender interference but the goal stands/

- But it doesn’t even matter because the good guys score! Peca with a heck of an effort and sneaks it in behind Ullmark’s skate
- ...This game is unbelievable. Buffalo gets their third of the game as
- I can’t even finish a sentence before someone scores. I can’t make this stuff up. Montreal ties the game AGAIN - Shaw drives the net and capitalizes on Drouin’s tip in front. Tied at 3!
- Holy moly what is defense (btw that’s who the fans at the Bell Centre ought to be barking at as opposed to Price)
- Larsson is called for hi-sticking and the Habs head back to the power play to finish off the period but can’t get much going before the clock runs out/
Second Period
- Maybe less goals against for the next 20
- Diving play by Lehkonen to maintain the zone and Shaw throws it right at the net but Ullmark stands tall
- Things are getting a little chippy
- Sabres up 4-3
- Some back and forth and Domi sends the puck sailing to Tatar who nets his sixth of the season. We are tied. Again.
- Deslauriers surprises literally everyone including himself by getting a shorthanded goal
- Another exciting period and the score after two is 5-4 in favour of Montreal/

Third Period
- Goalie change for Buffalo
- Nice little try from Lehkonen to start the period but he can’t get it past Hutton
- Eichel wins the face off and sends it right over to Skinner. Tied. Again.
- Ristolainen gets called for boarding on an absolutely nasty hit on Shaw
- What is it about the Buffalo Sabres that makes them the Habs’ kryptonite
- And we are heading to OT/
Overtime
- Ristolainen gets the winner in OT as the Habs fall 6-5 /
