After the best players were split across different groups to start training camp, we’re set to see all the members of the top six in the lineup as the Montreal Canadiens host the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Habs will be looking to return the favour from Thursday’s game when their prospect lineup fell 2-1 to a star-studded Leafs squad. That’s the score the Habs will be trying to beat in this game.
As we enter the second half of the pre-season slate, there are still auditions being made by some of the top prospects. David Reinbacher and Logan Mailloux will get another shot on defence, and Owen Beck will get shifts as the third-line centre. It’s a day off for Oliver Kapanen, the other of that main group of four that have become the top contenders for roster spots out of camp.
Tonight will also be the first time Martin St-Louis can put together representative power-play units with all of his big guns to choose from. The man advantage has not looked particularly good so far after finishing 27th in the league last season, and you know getting it going is one of the coach’s aims this evening. It could be a rough night for the Leafs’ B team if it can’t stay out of the box.
