It’s Halloween night at the Bell Centre, but the Canadiens have addressed the scariest part of their play by working hard to fix their defensive-zone coverage. After a 7-2 loss, they’ve enjoyed a 5-2 win over the St. Louis Blues and a 4-3 victory in Philadelphia when they allowed a couple of late goals after a great 58-minute effort. Those games broke a streak of four consecutive matches allowing four goals or more.
It may not be spooky any longer, but Juraj Slafkovský still has some sense of occasion by returning to play just in time to host Shane Wright and the Seattle Kraken. In Slafkovský’s absence, Kirby Dach has found some good chemistry with Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield, so the Slovak will play on the second line, at least to start. It’s entirely possible that he will return to his more regular spot on the top trio before the night is done as Martin St-Louis makes his in-game adjustments.
Montreal had just one streak of three consecutive wins last year, and it happened to start with a victory in Seattle back on March 24. The Habs will try to treat the NHL’s newest franchise as just another mark in their latest run if winning hockey.
