It was expected that Owen Beck would make his way back to the Canadiens lineup at some point this season, but an injury to Kirby Dach has brought about that recall in just the second game back from the 4 Nations break. Beck was perhaps Montreal’s best player in the games right before the international tournament took place, and he’ll still have a lot of that confidence for this latest stint.
He’ll be playing a very good Carolina Hurricanes team in his eighth NHL contest as his audition for a permanent role continues. He may not go back down the the AHL with some injury concerns in the forward corps and the trade deadline approaching, so he may as well get accustomed to going up against tough opposition with the Canadiens.
The Hurricanes may be in a bit of a slump right now, but there’s too much talent on the team to expect that slide to last much longer, and they always seem to play their best versus Montreal. The Habs just beat one of the opponents that they’ve had trouble beating in recent history on Saturday when they took out the Ottawa Senators, so perhaps they cal pull off an even bigger upset on home ice.
