Two of the NHL’s hottest goaltenders will step onto the ice tonight in Montreal. Since the time of his first career start on December 18, only three goaltenders have more wins than Carter Hart, and all three of them play for a team ranking either first or second in their division. Carey Price has rebounded from a near disastrous start to the season to now sport a save percentage close to his career mark, doing that with a .936 performance since Hart’s debut.

Hart’s emergence is bad news for a Canadiens team that was rarely able to take advantage of the Flyers’ poor goaltending in recent years. They’ve only managed to score more than three goals five times in the 19 games since the last lockout, and that lack of offence has them on a five-game losing streak versus the Metropolitan Division club. Yet, as is the current case for the team, they’ve fared better at home, with Hart’s win on January 19 the only regulation loss in the previous eight games between the teams at the Bell Centre.

To aid their cause, Montreal lines up all of their best players in an attempt to turn that trend around. If history is any indication, it will be a fairly low-scoring contest, but the Habs should have enough pieces to finish the one goal ahead needed to pull out the win.
