Just when it looked like the Canadiens had turned the corner with their play, allowing just three goals in two games during a back-to-back set, they reverted right back to the form that they’d shown before a three-day break spent on rectifying the defensive play. Major errors leading to goals against plagued them versus the Seattle Kraken, with the visitor capitalizing on almost every mistake Montreal made.

Once again, Martin St-Louis has given his lineup a shake, while also getting two defencemen back: Kaiden Guhle and Justin Barron, both returning from suspected concussions. Guhle’s presence is the most needed on the blue line as he’s been the team’s most stable defenceman on the back end. With their best overall defenceman, Lane Hutson, on a second pairing, the hope is that the Canadiens can find enough consistency to handle some opposition attacks without the front lines breaking completely.

The Capitals have made a habit of scoring a lot of goals to start this season, and that’s even without an effective power play at the moment. Montreal will have to be a lot better than it was on Tuesday to prevent another disaster and two more days of heavy scrutiny.
