Montreal Canadiens sign Cale Fleury to entry-level contract

The Montreal Canadiens announced that they have signed defenceman Cale Fleury to a three-year entry level contract.

Fleury was selected in the third round by the Canadiens, 87th overall, at the 2017 NHL Entry Draft from the Kootenay ICE of the Western Hockey League.

He was the captain of the ICE for two years before being traded to the Regina Pats last season. where he dramatically turned around his rating from -61 in 70 games to a +17 in 68 games after the trade, taking on a more defensive role after single-handedly running the team’s transition game in Kootenay.

He recently played with the Pats in the Memorial Cup, helping his team make it to the final before falling to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.

As a 20-year-old, Fleury would have been able to play in the WHL as an over-ager, but will instead begin his pro career in the AHL with the Laval Rocket.
